Our Philosophy

Professional ballet training begins with understanding.

At Chengwu Guo Ballet, our philosophy is founded on one principle:

Mind Over Body.

We believe the mind is the most powerful tool a dancer possesses. When dancers truly understand movement, anatomy, musicality and the purpose behind every exercise, the body responds with greater efficiency, confidence and artistry.

Our training is based on the Vaganova Method, combined with our own contemporary educational approach developed through more than a decade of experience performing as Principal Artists with The Australian Ballet.

The Chengwu Guo Ballet Curriculum and Syllabus has been thoughtfully designed by Chengwu Guo and Ako Kondo to meet the demands of today's dancers. It integrates classical tradition with modern knowledge of movement, learning, injury prevention and artistic development.

Rather than simply asking students to repeat exercises, we encourage them to question, analyse, reflect and apply. This develops dancers who are technically strong, mentally engaged and capable of adapting to the ever-evolving professional ballet world.

Our teaching follows five stages of learning:

Discover.
Understand.
Apply.
Reflect.
Grow.

We believe every dancer has the ability to progress when they are given the right knowledge, guidance and environment. Our responsibility is to provide clear direction, professional mentorship and individual support so each student can reach their highest potential.

Our goal is not simply to produce dancers with beautiful technique.

Our goal is to develop intelligent, self-directed artists who are equipped with the knowledge, discipline and resilience to enjoy a sustainable and successful professional career.

“At Chengwu Guo Ballet, dance is more than movement—it’s a path to self-discovery, resilience, and excellence.”
